Kezo emerging as favourite for DGP’s post

SHILLONG: Senior police official, B Kezo, is emerging as the favourite of the Government for the post of the next DGP.

The current DGP, N Ramachandran, will retire on October 31.

According to sources, though the State Security Commission is yet to meet to nominate five names of police officials as per the seniority list before the Government finally appoints the new DGP, Kezo, who is currently serving as the DG (Prisons) in Nagaland is emerging as the likely choice of the Government.

Kezo had earlier served Meghalaya as Additional Director General of Police before taking up the current assignment in Nagaland in May this year.

Chief Secretary WMS Pariat had, earlier, said that theoretically there was no bar on giving Ramachandran an extension for a few months.

Besides, Kezo, the list of probable candidates for consideration includes present DG (Prisons) Kulbir Krishan (1976 batch); Director General (Home Guards) from Assam, Subhash Goswami; Meghalaya Director General of Civil Defence and Home Guards Prem Singh (both 1977 batch); DK Pathak ADG training, CRPF and PJP Haneman (1979 batch), brother of Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope.
