SHILLONG: The war of words between of Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh over tardy implementation of Khyndai Lad beautification project, continues with the later firing a fresh salvo at the minister.

According to the UDP leader, the Shillong City Congress had conducted a similar inspection over stench coming out from the Marten dumping ground when he was the Urban Affairs Minister.

“The fact is that it was done with an aim to dethrone me from the Cabinet not because of stench coming out from the Marten dumping ground,” Lyngdoh told reporters here on Tuesday.

While maintaining that the party had conducted an inspection of the Khyndai Lad beautification project not with any intention to gain political mileage, he said that they have carried out the exercise after receiving complaints from the general public.

“The Urban Affairs Minister cannot deny the fact that the project is delayed due to incompetency and inefficiency on the part of the department concerned,” Lyngdoh said.

The UDP working president further criticized the Minister for her attempt to shift responsibilities.

“If the Urban Affairs department has released the money to the PWD to implement the project, I think it is the duty of the department to monitor its implementation,” he said.

Lyngdoh said, “It is not right to say that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.”
