TURA: This year’s summary revision of electoral rolls is of special importance keeping in mind the upcoming 2013 Assembly elections, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Pravin Bakshi said during an interactive awareness programme under the Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation Plan (SVEEP) organised on Wednesday.

The awareness programme was held with the basic objective of shedding light on various misconceptions concerning the voter enrollment processes.

Stressing on the need for proper and systematic enrollment of voters who have attained the qualifying age of 18 years and above, Bakshi informed that SVEEP is making a two-fold target to enroll fresh voters – to ensure systematic enrollment of qualified voters and to ensure maximum participation of already enrolled voters.

He added that during the coming months aggressive media campaigning would be used as a tool to disseminate vital information concerning voter enrollment to the masses. He urged booth level officers to ensure proper enrollment of eligible voters and said that various awareness programmes will be organised in secondary schools and colleges during the coming months.

Others who deliberated on various pertinent topics included Additional Deputy Commissioner and Registration Officer for 50-North and 51-South Tura, Ambrose Ch Marak, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election), HDB Sangma and Additional Deputy Commissioner and Master Trainer AVD Shira and Extra Assistant Commissioner (Election) CN Sangma.
