SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has called for a 12-hour bandh on October 9 from 5am to 5pm in Khasi and Jaintia Hills in protest against the inability of the State Government to effect the release of its Western Ri-Bhoi Zone president, K Thongni, who was arrested by Assam police last month for his alleged involvement in the torching of an Assam Police outpost on the Assam-Meghalaya boundary.

“We had given a 36-hour deadline to the Government to fulfill the demand, but its inability to do so has compelled us to take this step,” HANM said on Thursday.
