SHILLONG: With less than a month to go before the State gets a new Director General of Police (DGP), Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Thursday asserted that there is no room for controversy as far as appointment of the new State police chief is concerned as the State Government will now be guided by the Meghalaya Police Act 2010.
With the tenure of the present DGP N Ramachandran coming to an end on October 31, the process to find his successor has already begun, Dr Sangma said.
The senior most among the candidates for consideration for the post is the present DG (Prisons) Kulbir Krishan (1976 batch); Director General of Home Guards from Assam, Subhash Goswami and Meghalaya Director General of Civil Defense and Home Guards, Prem Singh (both 1977 batch); B Kezo, DG (Prisons), Nagaland (1978 batch); DK Pathak, ADG training, CRPF posted in Delhi and PJP Haneman (1979 batch).
There are indications that Kezo is emerging as the favourite of the Government for the post of the next DGP considering his previous experience as Meghalaya’s Additional DGP.
Chief Secretary WMS Pariat had, earlier, said that theoretically there was a possibility that Ramachandran could be given an extension for a few months.
