NONGPOH: Aggrieved over the delay tactics of the Government in releasing the compensation, the land owners have set up a final deadline of October 15 for release of the compensation and the interest on the same, failing which they have threatened to take back their land which they had provided for expansion of the Shillong Airport at Umroi.

The deadline was issued during a meeting held at Umroi Umden Mission village on Wednesday.

It may be mentioned that, the State Government has to pay compensation amounting to Rs 11.44 crore for the land acquired for the expansion of Shillong Airport.

President of Seng Samla Umden Pyllun, G Pyrtuh, informed media persons that the land owners and the Umden Missiong Dorbar Shnong have joined hands to pressurize the Government to pay the land compensation within October 15. “If the Government remains adamant despite the latest deadline, the land owners and the Dorbar Shnong will forcibly start taking back the land which they had handed over to the government and start cultivation and construction of houses on the land,” Pyrtuh asserted.
