SHILLONG: Accusing Social Welfare Minister JA Lyngdoh of trying to gain political mileage ahead of the election by making false allegation against him, PWD Minister HDR Lyngdoh on Friday claimed that the transfer of the PWD official of Mawphlang Sub-Division PWD (Roads) was a ‘routine exercise’.

“The transfer of Section Officer Karlenstar Kurbah is not an act of punishment. The officer was transferred since he had served for more than three years in the present posting,” Lyngdoh said while taking to newsmen on Friday.

The PWD Minister further claimed that there were a number of officers who had been transferred along with Kurbah.

“We are carrying this exercise to improve the efficiency of the officers in the department. It is important that the officers gain the experience of working both in the field and the office,” he said.

Alleging that there are officers in the PWD who serve in the same posting from the beginning of their service till their retirement, Lyngdoh said, “This is totally unjustified. It is important that the officers have the experience of working under different situations.”

He added that he has taken a call to see that no officer in the department remain in the same posting for more than three years.

It may be noted that there are allegations that the PWD Minister had ‘influenced and effected’ the transfer of the official acting on pressure from a contractor.
