SHILLONG: The Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope is likely to issue notices to 11 NCP legislators to find out whether they officially merged with the newly-formed National People’s Party within a week’s time.

Indicating this here on Saturday, Pyngrope said that he had already begun examining the complaints lodged by NCP legislator Sanbor Shullai against the 11 legislators.

“I have to further examine whether the complaints were in order as per the Anti Defection Law and subsequently I have to seek clarifications from the eleven legislators regarding the news paper reports about their merger,” he added.

It was based on the newspaper reports related to the merger that Shullai had lodged complaints with the Speaker seeking action against 11 defectors.

The defectors are yet to give any official documents to the Speaker substantiating the merger of NCP state legislative wing with Purno Sangma-led NPP.

Earlier, the Speaker rejected the complaint of NCP National General Secretary DP Tripathi on the ground that a member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly should lodge complaint against the legislators and not any member of the party.
