Kohima: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has claimed missing of arms and ammunition from police custody were orchestrated and channelized to ‘anti-national elements’ for use in the coming elections and demanded the dismissal of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Government since its continuance was a threat to the security and stability of the country.

In a statement issued by NPCC describing the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF)-led DAN Government as ‘anti-national’ for loss of 130 numbers of arms and 38,070 rounds of ammunition during its current rule from the period 2003 till September 2012.

Making a serious charge against NPF-led DAN government for loss of police arms and ammunition, NPCC pointed out that the revelation by the state home minister on the floor of the house on September 21, 2012 that 152 arms and 44,550 ammunition were lost from 1998 to 2012 indicated that of the quantity, 130 arms and 38,070 were during 2003 to September 2012 during the NPF-led DAN government’s tenure and that only 22 arms and 6480 rounds were lost from 1998 to 2002.

The NPCC said the types of arms lost that included sophisticated weapons and huge rounds of ammunition particularly from the Zunheboto District Executive Force (DEF) of Police Department were ‘unprecedented and could not be assumed as normal by any stretch of imagination.’

It further said, except in three instances, all other cases of loss of arms and ammunition were carried out by unit personnel.

The NPCC said the fact that such huge quantities of arms and ammunition were lost in 2012 alone, proved beyond doubt, that these were ‘well orchestrated and channelized to the anti-national elements with an intention and objective to use it during the coming election.’ (UNI)
