Govt official held for links with GNLA

TURA: Police on Monday arrested a data entry operator working in the office of the DI, Schools, Dadenggre, along with his accomplice and a village nokma for serving demand notes on behalf of the GNLA.

Police raided the house of Dalanggre nokma, June Marak alias Wangma (45) following an intelligence input that the new area commander of GNLA Savio Marak was hiding there along with some cadres.

Before police could reach the house the militants escaped. However, nokma was arrested by the security forces.

The data entry operator Richard Marak, meanwhile, confessed before police that he sent a demand note of Rs 20 lakh to his own office following an order from Savio Marak.

Police later arrested Richard’s accomplice Lambrith Marak. One motorbike was seized from their possession.

Suspected GNLA militant shot dead: Meanwhile, a suspected GNLA militant was killed during an encounter with the Army on Sunday morning in Adokgre region. The incident occurred when a team of Army personnel from Rangjuli camp laid a trap in a dense jungle of Mebenram-Modipara, 10-12 kms from Adokgre.

They came across the militant group crossing through the area at around 4am and an exchange of fire took place in which one militant, yet to be identified, died while the others escaped. The army recovered one 7.65 mm pistol with 2 magazines and one live hand grenade.
