NONGSTOIN: Unhappy over the State Government’s failure resolve border dispute with Assam, Pynskhemlang Nongshlong, who recently hit the headlines with his fast-unto-death, has decided to launch his second phase of agitation from October 18.

This time the venue of his indefinite hunger strike will be the State Secretariat compound in Shillong.

Announcing this here on Tuesday, Nongshlong in a press statement said that in the last three months since he called off his first phase of agitation the State government had not initiated any action to resolve the border dispute with Assam.

He said border dispute was a long pending issue and the State government was not serious about resolving it.

According to him, Assam government has also failed to adhere to the status quo that was agreed upon between the two states as far as Langpih is concerned. He mentioned that the Assam Forest department had constructed two gates at Block I and II and Meghalaya government was yet to act on it. He further pointed out that the Assam government had also erected electric poles at Block I and II.

Meanwhile, on October 12 he visited Langpih to request his previous associates to join him in the second phase of agitation. He said that all of them had refused to participate if the fast was held outside Langpih. However, he disclosed that there are three people who had agreed to support him.

Hindro Samakha Sirdar of the Hima Raid Mynsaw Langpih told this correspondent that he would not allow anyone from Langpih to protest outside Langpih.

He said “If Pynskhem wants to hold the fast at Langpih he should approach us and we can jointly decide what to do.” Hindro said .
