SHILLONG: Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid has cancelled his Shillong visit and instead the Union Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent Pala will inaugurate Madina Mosque at Laban on Thursday morning.

Pala will also attend the Central Puja Committee (CPC)’s ‘ get together harmony’ at Gorka Durga Mandir, Luckier Road.

Khurshid was scheduled to be present during both the programmes on Thursday morning.

According to official sources, the Prime Minister’s Office and his Cabinet colleague P. Chidambaram advised the Union Law Minister not to leave Delhi as there is a meeting of Group of Minters as well as a meeting with the editors.

Khurshid is facing heat over the alleged misappropriation of funds by Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust for physically challenged people associated with the Minister and his wife Louise Khurshid.

Sources said that the Central Congress leadership wanted him to be in Delhi due to the ongoing controversy. Leaving station means that he is running away from the problem for the opponents, sources added.
