Guwahati: Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Saturday expressed concern at unabated infiltration from Bangladesh and said security would be stepped up further along the porous international border.

On his first visit to the Indo-Bangladesh border at Mancahar in Dhubri district after assuming office as the Union Home minister, Shinde visited several border out-posts and also inspected the riverine border on patrol boats.

Talking to reporters after inspecting the border, the minister admitted that infiltration was continuing from Bangladesh.

“There is infiltration from Bangladesh and the border is still porous to an extent,’ Shinde said.

He added, ‘We will beef up security measures further and ensure that infiltration is checked to the maximum level possible.’

The Union minister said alternate measures like flood lighting was being contemplated in areas where border fencing is not feasible.

Shinde was on a day-long visit to the border and was accompanied by Ministry officials and BSF officers. (UNI)
