Meghalaya women’s sports competition ends

SHILLONG: The State Level Women’s Sports Competition concluded on Saturday at the JN Complex, Polo, with the finals for volleyball, kho kho and kabaddi.

The meet witnessed the participation of more than 200 athletes representing all the districts of the state.

Volleyball saw East Khasi Hills emerging as the eventual winner, overcoming West Garo Hills by two sets to one in the final, while South Garo Hills claimed third spot by beating Jaintia Hills.

In a closely contested kho kho final, Jaintia Hills outscored East Khasi Hills by 14 points to 11 to grab first place. East Garo Hills easily won on points 27-15 over West Garo Hills to secure third spot.

In kabaddi, the girls from East Garo Hills beat South Garo Hills 36-33 in the final. Jaintia Hills won third place after beating West Garo Hills by 53 points to 15.

The badminton and table tennis finals were held on Friday. In badminton, East Khasi Hills won the team event, with West Khasi Hills second and Jaintia Hills third.

The individual events saw Shaija Chettri from East Khasi Hills winning gold, Banadien Rapsang, also from East Khasi Hills, winning silver and Lakyntiew Wallang from West Khasi Hills taking the bronze medal.

In the doubles event, Banadien Rapsang and Shaija Chettri teamed up to bag gold, while Dorathy Challam and Wandaka Passah from Jaintia Hills won silver. The team of Sunita Thabah and Diana Marwein from West Khasi Hills won bronze.

West Garo Hills won the team event in table tennis, with East Khasi Hills finishing second and West Khasi Hills third.

The singles title went to Camellia Diengdoh from East Khasi Hills, second place went to Abanggi Silgachi T Sangma from West Garo Hills and Bianchi S Sangma from West Garo Hills District took third.

In doubles, Bianchi S Sangma and Abanggi Silgachi T Sangma from West Garo Hills District won first place, with second place going to Darinylla Nongrum and Lamneikim Hangsing form East Khasi Hills District. The pair of Rejoicy Iawphniaw and Susiemana K Marak from West Khasi Hills came away with bronze.
