TURA: The A’chik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) held its Annual General meeting on October 23 at the Tura District Auditorium, to discuss various issues of the A’chik society and the organization’s internal matters.
The meeting was hosted by the AYWO Central Governing Body (CGB), Tura and members of all the AYWO Branches from Baghmara, Sibbari, Dalu, Garobadha, Ampati, Tikrikilla, Phulbari, Chibinang, Dadenggre, Chibongre, Rongram, Asanang, Dainadubi.
The AYWO, CGB members and leaders of the AYWO Branches discussed at length regarding the various ways and means to work for the welfare and betterment of the society, working policies of the organization, influx issues and Inner Line Permit (ILP) matters among others.
The AYWO decided to strongly fight against the unabated influx issues and the demographic imbalance of Garo Hills which is posing a threat to the existence its indigenous populace of.
The organisation also said that it would take a stand that ILP should be introduced and implemented in Meghalaya, especially in Garo Hills.
AYWO further stated that the organisation would keep a check of dubious voters, dual voters and object the enrollment of immigrants in the electoral roll of Garo Hills.
After giving two months time (i.e. November and December), they would also strictly check the TNT, NOCs, illegal Non-Tribal traders and all other illegal trading practices prevailing in Garo Hills by January 2013.
The Organisation also said that it would follow up on the long pending demand for the complete establishment of the NEHU Administrative Cell (Additional) at the Tura Campus.
They added that the Organisation would continue to demand for perennial power supply for the Garo Hills districts and early completion of the ongoing rural electrification under RGGVY BPL Power Connection Scheme and Agia-Nongal Bibra emergency power transmission line.
Further, AYWO informed that they would hold agitations in the near future if the construction of the Ganol Hydro Power Project to give additional power supply to Garo Hills does not start by November as promised by the Power Minister in a meeting with the AYWO leaders in Shillong.
