SHILLONG: The officials and volunteers of the Central Puja Committee undertook an important post immersion task of cleaning the Ghat located at Wah Umkhrah in Polo.
Naba Bhattacharjee, Working President of the CPC informed on Saturday that all wooden frames of the idols and other materials were meticulously removed from the river by the volunteers who were assisted by JCVs and were stacked on the bank systematically for onward transport to the dumping ground by SMB trucks. It was ensured that minimum materials is carried downstream. This operation is undertaken every year before and after immersion of Durga idols. This year the responsibility of the CPC has further increased by virtue of being a member organization of the “Save Wah Umkhrah and Umshyrpi” Task Force. Accordingly, in addition to the removal of accumulated materials after immersion, the build up of soil, plastic and other debris adjacent to the Ghat was also removed. Minor dredging both up and down stream of the Ghat by JCVs was also carried out.
