SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh has exuded confidence of retaining Mawkyrwat seat in the Assembly election due in 2013.
Mawkyrwat is likely to witness a multi-cornered contest.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Lyngdoh, who also holds Health portfolio, said it was a good sign that young leaders were coming up to take up the responsibility as “public representatives”.
Besides Lyngdoh, five others — the KHADC MDC Enbin K Raswai (HSPDP), Renikton Lyngdoh (NPP), Donbor Mawlein (NCP), B Nongsiej (UDP) and H Lyngdoh (Independent) — will try their luck from Mawkyrwat. Raswai and Renikton may make going tough for Lyngdoh, who won from Mawkyrwat for five terms, sources, meanwhile, said. When asked about the impact of money power in elections, he said his party (Congress) would try to create an awareness on the ill-effect of money power in elections.
