SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong FC has reportedly sacked its star midfielder Johnny Menyongar for an ‘act of indiscipline’.

The team management took the decision during a practice session at Third Division Ground, Polo, on Tuesday.

Sources said that the Liberian footballer has been having a problem with the team management for several weeks.

Menyongar was reportedly not happy as he failed to find a place in the starting lineup in the last three SLFC I-League home matches against Mohun Bagan, Salgaocar and Sporting Clube De Goa.

“Menyongar has been revolting against the team management ever since his non-inclusion in the starting lineup,” sources said.

Meanwhile, another source revealed that Menyongar was in fact suspended for a week from the team recently for disrespecting the rules and regulations of the club.

Sources said that the selection of Menyongar in the match against Sporting Clube De Goa was a surprise, since he had just served his suspension.

It was, apparently, the insistence of coach Desmond Bulpin that saw Menyongar included in the team.

When contacted, the team management refused to comment on the issue.

It may be mentioned that Menyongar, who had earlier captained the Liberian national team, was signed by Lajong from United Sikkim during the last I-League season.

The Liberian was a star performer for SLFC in the last edition of the I-League.
