Shillong: Concerned individuals of the Dorbar Hima Khyrim including its Sordar BS Kharumnuid have rued the fact that for several years now the dates listed for Shad Nongkrem have always clashed with the programmes of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF).

Sordar Kharumnuid said that out of deference for several dancers and some who are part of the prayers and rituals who are themselves Christians, Nongkrem dance has never been held on a Sunday. So they expect a similar gesture of cooperation from the MTDF.

“We are a non profit organisation and we are here to conserve our culture so we expect some cooperation in this common goal.

This time the Shad Nongkrem will be held on November 3 when the MTDF will be staging their gig at the Orchid Lake Resort at Umiam.

Asked for his comments on the complaint, MTDF Chairman, RG Lyngdoh observed that the reason why Shad Nongkrem was included in the same tourism seasonal roster is because the Forum wants tourists who visit during this season to enjoy all the festivals in a sort of a circuit.

“The Dorbar Hima Khyrim should have spoken to us to express their discontent but they have never done so till date,” Lyngdoh informed.
