SHILLONG: Taking serious cognizance of the ‘abuse’ of the Seng Khasi flag by members of the Irish Shullai Durga Puja Committee during the immersion last week, leaders of the Seng Khasi Seng Raij will hold a general meeting to discuss the issue at Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban in Bishnupur on Sunday.

The incident has aroused anger amongst the Seng Khasi believers and the indigenous religious organization of the Khasi tribals had sought action against the Irish Shullai Durga Puja committee for misuse of its sacred flag.

According to the Seng Khasi officials, the Irish Shullai Durga Puja Committee had ‘misused’ the sacred flag of the Seng Khasi by carrying it without any authorization from the concerned office. The Seng Khasi officials condemned the act stating that such acts of deliberate malicious intentions have deeply affected the religious sentiments of all the Seng Khasi believers of the State.

The Durga Puja committee was named after the mother of Sanbor Shullai, local legislator and Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly.
