SHILLONG: The Union Ministry of Home affairs is in a dilemma over for two reasons as far as Meghalaya is concerned.

On the one hand, the Centre has to relieve DG (prisons) Nagaland B. Kezo from his present posting and on the other hand , the Union Ministry wants to get additional DG, Rajiv Mehta to be appointed as DG (narcotics control bureau ) by November 10 in Delhi.

Mehta is currently the officiating DGP.

Sources on Thursday said that the state government delayed the search for the successor of N Ramachandran, who retired from service on Wednesday.

The state is now without a full fledged DGP as Mehta is only carrying out the duties of the DGP till Kezo takes over.

Moreover, no major decision can be taken by Mehta.

When contacted, an official source said that he is not sure when Kezo will take charge as the Meghalaya police chief and when Mehta will go to Delhi.

The State Government has already written to the Centre to relieve Kezo, currently posted in Nagaland.

Delhi ‘s intervention was sought since he is on an inter-cadre deputation.

However, Nagaland Government is yet to release him.

It was on May 27 this year that Kezo was appointed the DG (prisons ) Nagaland for a period of three years with the approval of Union Home Ministry .

However, the sudden decision of the State Government to appoint him as the new DGP has surprised the Centre as it considers that Kezo should not have been sent to Nagaland at all if the State Government had a plan to appoint him as next Meghalaya DGP .

Kezo came to Shillong two days ago along with former Nagaland Chief Minister SC Jamir.

Jamir met the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and reportedly urged him to speed up the appointment of the police official. Kezo however was not present in the meeting.
