FKJGP denies hand in extortion

SHILLONG: The FKJGP Garo Hills Zone on Thursday denied the involvement of its general secretary Raksang A Sangma in extorting money from traders of Tura market on Monday.

Sangma along with another member, Donnie M Marak were arrested by the Tura police on Monday after they had allegedly taken away a sum of five thousand rupees from a shop. In a statement issued here on Thursday, the president of the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone Pritam R Marak claimed that the owner of the shop, who had been allegedly extorted by the general secretary of the FKJGP, is a personal friend of Marak and both lend and borrow money and any other necessities from each other.
