Financial support to NE students

 SHILLONG:The NEC will provide financial support to students of the NE Region for higher and technical courses wherein the course coverage have been considerably widened. An amount of Rs. 919.95 lakhs has been released to the NE states to support the students for this purpose during 2011-12 which has been bifurcated as – Assam Rs 190 lakh, Manipur Rs 220 lakh, Mizoram Rs 152.54 lakh, Meghalaya Rs 118.58 lakh, Nagaland Rs 31.81 lakh, Sikkim Rs 61.68 lakh and Tripura Rs 145.35 lakh. A Pilot Project has also been taken up to support brilliant students and the girl child students from economically backward classes in schools and colleges. Accordingly, 3 students from each state and 2 from Sikkim are being sponsored at the Assam Rifles Public School, Laitkor, Shillong from the year 2011-12 in Class VI. Another 23 students have already been selected for the Academic Year 2012-13.
