Kohima: In all 75 passengers of Kolkata-bound Air India flight AI 705 had a narrow escape on Thursday as the plane developed technical snag but landed safely at the Dimapur Airport.
However, it could not start again.
According to official sources the engine of the Air India flight on the Kolkata-Dibrugarh-Dimapur-Kolkata sector developed a snag. It landed at Dimapur airport at 1240 hrs.
Around 70 passengers were supposed to board the Airbus at Dimapur, taking the total number of passengers to around 145.
But the on-board flight engineers and ground staff failed to rectify the snag even after technical guidance and support from Kolakata and Guwahati airports. The AI staff at Dimapur airport informed the passengers about the grounding of the aircraft for the day.
The passengers were later provided free hotel accommodation. The flight is scheduled to leave today.
Meanwhile, the Station Manager, Air India, Dimapur in a release said in view of the grounding of AI-705 an additional flight will be operated on Friday. (UNI)
