SHILLONG: After facing flak from several quarters, Deputy Chief Minister BM Lanong on Wednesday made it clear that no favouritism was shown while extending the service of the State Sports Council Chief Engineer R Kharmalki.
The State Cabinet recently decided to extend the service of Kharmalki.
No official procedure was violated with regard to the extension of Kharmalki’s service, he said.
As per the Cabinet decision, Kharmalki will be in office until such time when he is required and subsequently to be replaced by another officer on deputation from other technical departments.
The Minister also admitted that the department lacks competent and qualified engineers.
It may be mentioned that following stiff opposition, the Government had to reduce the extension by one year from original two years.
