SHILLONG: Calling for improvement in work culture, Meghalaya Governor Ranjeet Shekhar Mooshahary has said, “The government has granted too many holidays for its employees.”
“Holidays are not the only way in which celebrations can be made,” he said, adding that some were unhappy if these ‘unaccounted holidays’ were not given.
“We have to change this habit for a better society,” he said while addressing the 62nd foundation day of the Bharat Scout & Guides at a function at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
“Holidays on account of some festivals should be limited to only those people who actually observe the event and not to other communities who has no connection with those festivals,” Mooshahary said. Expressing concern over rise in crime against women and children, he said “In Meghalaya, with the crime rates are going up especially against women and children, special attentions should be given to such cases involving the community as a whole”. While lauding the efforts of the Scouts and Guides, Mooshahary said they play an important role in shaping the society and instilling a sense of responsibility, spirit of service, sense of humanity and the like among the people.
Altogether, 60 enthusiastic young achievers, including 45 scouts and 15 guides from different schools were awarded the Rajya Puraskar Award for excellent performance during the year. Two teachers, P Tariang and S Diengdoh, were also recipients of the award beside three scout masters for meritorious services.
