Umshyrpi, Synod colleges win in varsity cricket

SHILLONG: Umshyrpi College defeated KL Bajoria College by 37 runs, while Synod College defeated Ri Bhoi College by six wickets in the Inter College Cricket Tournament 2012 organised by the Sports Department, NEHU, at Polo.

In the first match, KL Bajoria College won the toss and elected to field. Umshyrpi College scored a massive 147-6 in 20 overs with Sunil Sunar scoring 37 off 35 balls, while Rahul Pathak took 3-10.

In reply, KL Bajoria College could manage only 110-9 in their 20 overs.

Akito Krose scored a fighting 36 off 28 balls, while Vikash took 2-0.

In the second match of the day, Ri Bhoi College won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that went against them as they were bundled out for just 96 in 24.5 overs. Rahim Ali was their best batsman, having scored 23 off 39 balls.

Pynskhemborlang took 3-19 in his five overs.

In reply, Synod College reached the modest target in 17.4 overs, losing four wickets.

After having contributed with the ball, Pynskhemborlang scored 20 runs off 22 balls, while Biswajit Das did the most for Ri Bhoi, taking 3-23.

The next matches will see St Edmund’s College take on Tirot Sing College, while St Anthony’s College go up against Synod College.
