SHILLONG: The newly-formed National People’s Party (NPP) has said that it is still in touch with the UDP and HSPDP to have a pre-poll alliance in the run-up to the Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, the NPP leader Purno A Sangma said the party was in the midst of negotiations with other likeminded political parties. Sangma, who held the first round of talks with UDP and HSPDP recently, said that the next round of discussion with these two parties will be held shortly.
Asked whether the NPP wants to have a pre-poll alliance with NCP, Sangma replied, “Where is NCP?”
The NPP in its meeting held at its office here also deliberated on the action plan to be initiated by the party for the coming elections.
“We had a meeting of the eligible candidates and we also reviewed the programmes and policies to be adopted by the party in the elections”, he added.
According to Sangma , a strategy will be worked out in terms of the materials to be used for the election campaigns. The NPP leader said the party has so far finalized candidates for almost 21 seats of out of the total 24 seats in Garo Hills.
The NPP is yet to field candidates in Mendipathar, Dalu and Tikrikilla.
