SHILLONG: After spending 45 days in judicial custody, Reverend SK Miller, an accused in committing offences against minor inmates at his shelter home, has secured bail.

The Shillong bench of the Gauhati High Court on Monday granted bail to the 65-year-old Church leader.

Miller was released on bail on his executing a personal recognizance (PR) bond of Rs 50,000 at the same time, directing the accused to co-operate with the investigation and not to intimidate the prosecution witnesses or tamper with the evidences.

It may be mentioned that after a city court rejected his bail application, Miller moved the High Court.

Rev SK Miller, who is presently undergoing treatment in the Shillong Civil Hospital, has been in judicial custody since September 29 in connection with cases related to exploitation and sexual abuse of minors staying at the New Life Home owned by him.

During the hearing, Additional public prosecutor (PP) R Gurung had opposed the bail application of Miller in view of the seriousness of allegations levied against him which included raping a minor.

Soon after the alleged child abuse surfaced in October, several NGOs sought strict legal action against Miller. They also sought the intervention of the Child Welfare Committee of the Sate Social Welfare Department.
