Flagship programme benefits 90,000 families in Mizoram

AIZAWL: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalthanhawla claimed that New Land Use Policy (NLUP) assistance has been given to more than 90,000 families so far and the assistance will be given to another 32, 000 families, the fund of which is also ready; all the assistance will be given before the end of the present government.

Lal Thanhaswla said this today while distributing assistance under Integrated Housing & Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) to 136 families at Serchhip D.C Conference Hall.

Chief Minister advised the beneficiaries to make the best use of the fund they received and be happy with the blessing of God through the Government. He lauded the UD&PA Department Minister and Department official for their hardwork and endeavours. He also expressed his hope that the assistance will help the poor as such that IHSDP is a scheme for the poor.

UD&PA Department initiative- Integrated Housing & Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) is part of JNNURM, and is being carried out in 6 district headquarters of Mizoram for construction of 1950 poor families, of which assistance has been given to 1231 families so far; for its last batch it will also be given to another 719 families, of which 136 families are from Serchhip district.

For Serchhip town particularly, Central Government has sanctioned Rs. 710.40 Lakhs for construction of 350 families and for infrastructure building. Works for 214 families has been started, of which construction of houses for 177 families has been completed, while construction is going on for 37 families.

Now, assistance for house construction is given to 136 families, in which for each family Rs. 1,57,888 is allocated and is to be given in 4 installments, as such for the 1st installment Rs. 59,000 each is given out today.

For the 2nd installment too, Rs. 59,000 is estimated, and it will be given after works on 1st installment is completed. In the 3rd installment Rs. 29,888 will be given, and in the 4th installment which is for security fund Rs. 10,000 will be given. Besides, it is estimated that the Beneficiary shall contribute Rs. 6,300 for the house construction.

The house to be constructed for the poor under IHSDP is estimated for Assam Type and not less small than sq.metre 39. The money will be given out by Mizoram Rural Bank (Serchhip Branch) by way of depositing in the account of the beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries of IHSDP assistance today include 23 families from Serchhip VC-I, 19 families from VC-II, 18 families from VC-III, 19 families from VC-IV, 7 families from VC-V, 28 families from New Serchhip and 22 families from Chhiahtlang. (NNN)
