Agartala: The Tripura government has opposed the Centre’s move to stop issuing Indo-Bangladesh passport. Officials here on Sunday stated that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had asked to stop issuing Indo-Bangladesh passport on security reasons but the state government opposed it and sought review of the decision considering proximity of Bangladesh with Tripura and travel frequency between Agartala and Dhaka.

The issuance of international passport for residents of Tripura had been facing a serious problem with the outsourcing of the facilitation task to Tata group that had shifted all the work at Kolkata.

“Thousands of applications of passport aspirants have been pending with the Tata office and the applicants are not getting any updates here,” said an official here. (UNI)
