District youth convention held in Nongpoh

NONGPOH: To commemorate the foundation day of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and also to create awareness among all the youth leaders of different youth clubs in Ri-Bhoi district on the role of youth in strengthening and promoting the society, the NYKS, Ri-Bhoi district unit on Monday organized a one-day youth convention in Nongpoh.

The function was attended by Nongpoh Police Officer In-Charge NT Lawai, Nongpoh Police Traffic In-Charge SS Umdor, NYKS District Youth Coordinator Dr Salam D Singh, Meghalaya State Youth Awardee Kitboklang Nongphlang, besides over 100 youth leaders from the district.

“Youth are the future of the Nation; they have lots of responsibility in promoting and looking after the welfare of the community where they come from,” Lawai said while addressing the gathering.

Dr Singh informed the youth leaders that the major objective of the NYKS is to empower the youth. He said that the NYKS organizes activities such as conventions, national integration camps, sports, and others for the youth.

Earlier, certificates and sports equipment were handed over to over 26 youth clubs.
