TURA: Over a hundred candidates from Garo Hills who cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) for appointment as primary teachers have threatened to agitate by next month. The government now wants the candidates to clear the DIET course of the department before any such appointment takes place, but such a rule was not framed at the time they cleared SET. A delegation of the SET candidates’ association recently met Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma at Tura but, in vain. “We are prepared to join the DIET course but the government ought to first appoint us as teachers as at the time of clearing the SET examination we were never informed about such a requirement,” claimed the successful candidates who remain unemployed.
