NONGPOH: Health and Family Welfare Minister, Rowell Lyngdoh, on Tuesday inaugurated the new building of Byrnihat PHC, which was constructed under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) 2011-2012, in the presence of Jirang MLA and former Chief Minister JD Rymbai.
Other dignitaries present included DP Wahlang, Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Dr NM Sangma, Seniorr Medical & Health Officer, Byrnihat, I Mawlong, Additional District Magistrate, Ri-Bhoi district, Dr P Dohtdong, District Medical & Health Officer, Ri-Bhoi district and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh said that health services is ensured through PHCs, CHCs, district hospitals and sub-centres as well as through the NRHM, adding that the government is making all efforts to ensure that the people of the State get easy access to health care facilities both in rural and urban areas.
He also stressed on the need to build up manpower as health sector is one of the largest job providers in the State.
To improve the manpower situation, the government is planning to set up medical colleges in the State on a PPP mode.
He expressed hope that the PHC would provide effective health delivery system for the people of Byrnihat in particular and the area as a whole.
