NONGSTOIN: The Mawkyrwat C&RD Block of South West Khasi Hills on Tuesday organized its Social Audit Forum at St Vianney’s Hall, Mawkyrwat.
The forum was chaired by Dr SS Khongkhliam, Principal of Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat. Also present at the occasion was the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mawkyrwat OT Lyngwa.
Speaking on the occasion, Lyngwa said with the implementation of NREGS various villages in the Block have benefitted greatly from it. He added that the main focus of NREGS is development of roads, water conservation, construction of footpaths and AEC (Area Employment Council) building.
Lyngwa said that out of the 126 villages in the Mawkyrwat C&RD Block, a total of 122 blocks had received help from the NREGS. The remaining four villages lagged behind due to lack of understanding between the village councils and the villagers, he added.
“I urge upon the villages to have mutual understanding amongst its inhabitants for the welfare of the village,” Lyngwa said.
It may be mentioned that there are 16 AECs in eastern Mawkyrwat and all its members had prepared a brief report on the social audit of the block.
The job card holders informed the BDO that Mawkyrwat was the only block to implement the scheme smoothly. They said the only problems faced by them were from the banks. They said the banks delayed the disbursal of funds to the job card holders. They urged the bank authorities to make necessary improvements for the benefit of the people.
The success of the scheme has been attributed to the Ngunraw internal road which has been successfully completed. The black topping of the road has been allotted to the Border Development Scheme. In this regard the BDO has already issued the no objection certificate (NOC) to the authorities.
In East Mawkyrwat, the villages that implemented the scheme in the best way were Mawten, Wahsiej, Mawlangwir, Ngunraw, Rangjadong, Tynnai and Manad.
