Militants attack police in South West Khasi Hills

SHILLONG: Suspected militants attacked a truck carrying police personnel in South West Khasi Hills on Thursday evening.

One bullet hit the rear side of the truck but no one was injured after a brief exchange of fire, police said.

According to police, the truck came under fire from a group of 16 militants at Tinpul area near Rajaju in South West Khasi Hills at around 5 pm on Thursday when it was proceeding to Ranikor from Nongkhyllem to pick up the officer in charge of Nongkhyllem.

It is yet to be ascertained whether the militants belonged to GNLA or ANVC (B). Police have intensified the operations in the area.
