SHILLONG: A day after a grenade was lobbed at the private residence of Community and Rural Development Minister Saleng Sangma at Ringregitam, Tura by suspected GNLA ultras, DGP Kulbir Krishan, on Sunday maintained that adequate security will be provided to legislators and other VIPs to prevent such incidents.

Krishan said that a security committee meet held last week had categorized security for every legislator especially in Garo Hills.

“Increased security will be provided to the MLAs and ministers travelling around the State to prevent any untoward incident,” Krishan said.

Meanwhile, the DGP refused to comment on the attack on Sangma’s residence stating that the matter is under investigation.

Following the attack, police had arrested a GNLA cadre identified as June who revealed that he was acting on behalf of Hadeo, the GNLA’s self-styled area commander of Dalu-Kherapara in West Garo Hills.
