SHILLONG: North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has unanimously resolved to take up the issue of illegal infiltration of foreigners on a war footing.

NESO adopted this resolution during its 5th General Conference which was recently held in Kohima.

While stating that issue of illegal infiltration of foreigners is still a very serious threat to the identity and security of the indigenous people of the region, NESO has decided that more pro-active steps need to be taken up by the NESO in general and by the member organisations in particular, on a war footing.

Meanwhile, NESO has also decided to explore all possibilities to fight against this menace and also to keep on taking up this issue with the concerned governments at the state or at the Central level. Also to work out modalities according to the prevailing situation of the concerned state.

A majority of the members of the NESO who attended the general conference have also deliberated at length, regarding the issue of Education in the different states of the North-East, even as they were of the view that the present system is predominantly of the formal form of education.

Recognising the importance of formal education, NESO also resolved that the present system education should also include and introduce more important job oriented courses. Introduction of vocational institutes should be location specific and the curriculum should include the traditional values like culture, history, geography etc.

Meanwhile, the newly elected office bearers of NESO are, former KSU leader Samuel Jyrwa (chairman), Tripura Student Federation (TSF) president Upendra Debbarma, AASU leader Shankar Prasad Ray (vice chairman), All Manipur Student Union (AMSU) leader Sinam Prakash Singh (secretary general), GSU leader Manseng A Sangma (assistant general secretary) and former AASU leader Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya (Advisor).
