Information campaign kicks off in Jowai

JOWAI: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Wednesday launched a three-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign to create awareness of the Central Government schemes among the people of West Jaintia Hills District.

Education Minister, Prof RC Laloo attended the launch as the chief guest. West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Peter S Dkhar, Chairman of the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC), Dr E Pamei, who is also the Director of Field Publicity, Media and Communication officer, Shillong, NJ Saikia, district government officials and heads of various departments besides others were present on the occasion.

Dr Pamei informed that the main purpose and objective of the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign is to spread the message of various Central government schemes and programmes being implemented in the country.

“The Campaign was initiated by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as a new media strategy to spread the message and make people aware of various central government schemes and programme,” he said.

He further informed that the success of the government’s developmental programmes and schemes largely depends on people’s participation and he called upon the countrymen to unitedly move ahead as the citizens of the largest democracy of the world for betterment of the people.

Prof Laloo said, “Although there are many Central Government schemes for the people, most people are unaware about them or how to avail of them and how and where to apply. Some of the schemes that will be explained during the campaign include the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Mid-day meal scheme and a slew of rural schemes regarding housing, irrigation, roads, National Rural Health Mission besides other news schemes and programmes.”

“Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign is very important. Its disseminate information, generate awareness and bring about attitudinal change towards government’s plans and programs and also collects feedback from the people about various initiatives and policies of the government,” added Prof Laloo while calling upon the people of West Jaintia Hills to participate in the public information campaign.

West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, PS Dkhar, who chaired the programme, called upon heads of government departments in the District to participate in the campaign so that they will be more acquainted with news schemes and programmes of the Central Government to enable them to prepare and submit proposals for beneficial schemes and projects to the government for sanction.

Several stalls were put up by the departments including Health, PHE, Education, Soil and Water Conservation, Water Resources and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

Official of the BSNL informed that High Speed Wireless Data Services including Wimax and Data Card have been launched in Jowai, Ladrymbai, Khliehriat and Raliang.
