Shillong: Swift action on part of the SWAT team from Shallang Police Station helped rescue a kidnapped businessman –D Dubey– from the clutches of suspected LAEF militants led by Pewas at Nongshram in West Khasi Hills District on Wednesday morning.

The SWAT team acted on a tip-off from reliable sources and came across a group of armed miscreants in an area between Nongshram and Shallang.

Heavy exchange of fire took place between the SWAT team and the LAEF militants and the businessman suffered injuries on his thigh during the crossfire. After 10 minutes of firing, the militants escaped into the nearby forest. No casualties were reported on either side. Meanwhile, the Marwari businessman D Dubey, who was on his way to Shallang from Tura, has been admitted in the Shallang PHC and is reportedly out of danger.
