NONGSTOIN: In a sudden and surprising move, members of the Youth Congress of Rambrai- Jyrngam Constituency have shifted their allegiance to HSPDP ticket aspirant KP Pangniang.

Anthony Sangma, youth leader from Malangkona, Evlin Marak, president of Youth Congress Aradonga area, Evendro Marak, general secretary of the Youth Congress Aradonga area and Philip Marak of the NPP from Kamriangsih have all pledged their support to KP Pangniang, an HSPDP ticket aspirant from the constituency.

Evlin Marak said that not only people from the Aradonga area but people from all the newly added villages to the constituency (from erstwhile Mawshynrut constituency to Rambrai- Jyrngam after delimitation) would support Pangniang.

He added that Pangniang was the only person who understood the problems faced by the people living in the borders and stood for the Langpih cause.

Evlin further said that the Garo people were highly indebted to Pangniang for helping them register their lands in the land records. He also mentioned that Pangniang was the best man for the area and that they would make sure that he gets the maximum votes from the Garos during the Assembly polls.

However, all of them stated that they were only joining the Pangniang camp and not the party (HSPDP). They said that they were interested in Pangniang irrespective of which party he belonged to. They also lamented that for years they had supported Francis Pondit Sangma before the delimitation in Mawshynrut but he failed to bring in any development for the people or the area.

They said that they would not make the same mistake and that they would ensure that the right candidate represented them henceforth. They added that the Youth Congress in the erstwhile Mawshynrut constituency was treated like a ‘use and throw’ organization.

“Eight to nine months prior to the election the Youth Congress would be formed and immediately after the elections, the winning candidate forgets the actual people that worked day and night to ensure his victory,” they lamented.
