NONGSTOIN: In a major breakthrough, Nongstoin Police Station Officer In-Charge (OC) TS Marwein along with one constable arrested one person who was involved in the gang rape of a disabled girl of Mawiaban Village in Nongstoin on Wednesday.

Sources said that the victim was outside her house when a woman Alisha Dkhar lured her to a local taxi (ML 06- 5296) parked nearby. The victim approached the taxi and entered inside. Three occupants of the taxi- Orlandus Marshillong of Umwahlang village, the driver, Kwom Lyngkhoi of Mawlieh village and Dino Puwein of Mawmarin village – then drove to Nonglang where they gang raped the victim in the nearby Umkynraw forest. Alisha, who accompanied the trio, was dropped at Umjaru from where she returned to Nongstoin.

Meanwhile, the victim’s sister was informed by one of her neighbours that he had spotted the victim getting into the taxi. Worried, the sister called the police. The OC of Nongstoin PS arrived at the scene and immediately launched a search for the taxi and its occupants.

Around 10 pm, they spotted the taxi parked on the roadside near Umkynrow forest in Nonglang village. They stopped and found the driver Orlandus there. After some time the others emerged from the nearby forest along with the victim. A tussle broke out and in the ensuing melee, Orlandus and Kwon escaped into the nearby forest while Dino was arrested and the victim rescued.

The police and the victim’s relatives were helped by local youths from Nonglang village.

Meanwhile, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing, Seng Samla Shnong Siejlieh president Banlumlang Wanniang and the KSU Siejieh Unit and the Seng Longkmie Nongstoin have condemned the dastardly act.

All these NGOs have requested the police authorities to deal with the perpetrators in the most stringent manner and to ensure that they are not let loose without sufficient punishment.
