SHILLONG: Congress legislator Sayeedullah Nongrum has threatened to contest the upcoming assembly polls as an independent from Rajabala if the party denies him ticket.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said that since the central leadership of Congress was aware of his contributions to the party he was hopeful of securing the party ticket.

“If the party does not allot ticket to me, I will have no other option but to contest as an independent candidate,” Nongrum said.

Besides Nongrum, Abdus Saleh is another contender for the party ticket for Rajabala and indications are that Saleh, who is close to the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, will be given the party ticket.

In the present Assembly Saleh represents Mahendraganj. Since it has become a reserved seat after delimitation he has decided to contest from Rajabala.

The wife of the Chief Minister Dikanchi D Shira is planning to contest from Mahendraganj in 2013 polls.
