SHILLONG: The Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope will give his ruling on the status of 11 ‘defected’ NCP legislators soon after the Winter session of the Assembly.

Though the defected legislators claim to have merged with the newly-formed National People’s Party (NPP), they will still remain as NCP legislators in the House till the Speaker pronounces his ruling. It was on November 12 that the defected legislators had sought two months’ time to respond to the complaint lodged by NCP legislator and Deputy Speaker Sanbor Shullai, who called for action against the legislators who had defected to NPP. After the legislators sought more time, the Speaker insisted that they should reply to the complaint within one month. According to the Speaker, after the session is over, he would give his ruling and the same will be notified in the Assembly bulletin even if the defected legislators do not reply to complaint lodged by Shullai. Last week, some defected legislators again wrote Pyngrope to give them one more month to reply to the complaint lodged by Shullai.
