SHILLONG: The CBI findings on the manipulation in appointments of teachers, spurt in militant activities in Garo Hills and deteriorating road condition are some of the issues which will dominate the three-day Winter Session of the State Assembly beginning on Tuesday.
This will be the last session of the 8th Assembly before the State goes to polls sometime in February next.
The Opposition Leader, Conrad Sangma has already indicated that the worsening law and order situation in Garo Hills and faulty appointment of teachers are a matter of concern. The UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh is unhappy as he was disallowed by the Speaker to raise the motion on the job scam and another resolution on the need to bring about a strong Lokayukata Act in Meghalaya.
However, despite issues aplenty in the run upto the Assembly elections, shortage of time will prevent the legislators from raising important points.
While two days are allotted to the Government business, only one day (December 13) is given to private members. There will be no session on December 12 as it is a holiday on account of the death anniversary of Pa Togan Sangma.
After the death of NCP legislator Mason Singh Sangma (Chokpot) and the resignation of Tura legislator P A Sangma to contest the Presidential polls, the effective strength of the House is 58.
