SHILLONG: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Professor RC Laloo has informed the State Assembly that no land along the border of Khasi-Jaintia Hills has been given to Assam by the State Government.

Prof Laloo said this while responding to a query tabled by HS Lyngdoh of HSPDP on Tuesday.

To a supplementary whether the State Government has given away 153 villages to Assam which existed with Khasi and Jaintia Hills since 1966, the Minister said there were only 12 areas of difference between the two states.

According to Laloo, the State Government has submitted its claims before the Assam and it was being examined by the Assam Government.

The HSPDP legislator also sought clarification on the map prepared by the Survey of India where some villages of Meghalaya were shown as the part of Assam.

To this the Minister informed that the matter was taken up with the Survey of India. “The Survey of India said it was an interpretation of North East Re-Organization Act, 1971, but it is yet to be verified by the state authorities,” Prof Laloo said.
