Moms-to-be waiting for this ‘big day’

Indore: All expecting mothers wait to hear the first cry of their newborn but being able to do so on a memorable date like 12/12/12 could be an experience in itself.

Many mothers have lined up to the city clinics to fix their appointments for caesarean procedure on this special date which would not repeat in another hundred years.

Not just that, moms-to-be have also asked for the procedure to be conducted at 12:12pm.

With nearly 200 babies being born in the city every day, there would be at least these many births on this special date, says joint director Dr Sharad Pandit.

Dr Bhandari adds, “There is a lot of excitement among mothers who are expecting their babies around December 12. They have been demanding for deliveries on this date but we need to be very cautious. One mother told me that she wanted to deliver her baby on this day because this option would not be available from 2013.”

However, there are some doctors who do not entertain such demands. Senior gynaecologist Dr Sunanda Jain says, “I don’t consider it medically and ethically correct. The caesarean can be planned but if there is no medical indication before the delivery, the baby can be pre-mature and the mother can suffer from excessive bleeding.”

Another well-known gynaecologist from the city Dr Asha Baxi said, “I get a lot of enquiries like I had for 11/11/11 babies last year. But this year, I have only one routine delivery which isn’t planned keeping the date in mind. I think people believe more in astrology than the dates.”

Meanwhile, an astrologer said, “Planning a baby is not good astrologically as it reduces the effect of the nakshatra.” Another astrologer said that time between 7am to 9am was reasonably good for the delivery.

Irrespective of what astrologers say, enthusiastic mothers have already packed their bags for the big day. (Agencies)
