18-year-old brutally raped

SHILLONG: One 18 year-old girl was gang raped by a group of boys near Sacred Heart School at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills while she was returning from the Simsang Festival along with her two friends on Thursday night at around 11pm.

According to the police, the girl was raped by 7 to 8 young boys on Thursday night.

However, the number of the accused alleged to be involved in raping the girl differed from the one given by a member of the Women’s Commission based in East Garo Hills who stated that the girl was raped by 16 boys around the age- group of 15 to 20 years.

According to the member of the Women’s Commission based in East Garo Hills, the girl was returning from the Simsang festival along with her two friends and on their journey back home and they were being followed by these boys. “The two friends managed to escape, but the girl was left alone and became a victim of rape. She was not only raped but also beaten up brutally”, a source from the Commission said adding that the girl is in hospital at present. Meanwhile, police have arrested two accused and investigation is still on.
