Boxing camp held in Mawryngkneng

SHILLONG: As part of the Year of the Youth 2012, the East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer, in collaboration with the Mawryngkneng Cultural &Sports Club, organised a two-day boxing coaching camp on December 13-14 at the playground of Mawryngkneng Higher Secondary School.

The competition witnessed immense participation of the youth of the Mawryngkneng area, who received training from boxing star Larry Kharpran.

The valedictory function was attended by the BDO Mawryngkneng C&RD Block R Iangrai as the chief guest, besides the District Sports Officer of East Khasi Hills G Lyngdoh and Meghalaya’s very own boxing star Torak Kharpran.

It may be mentioned that Torak Kharpran won his first international gold in the 54 kg category of the AK Misra Senior Men Boxing Championship in Chandigarh three years ago.

The competition also saw the enthusiastic performance of two children – Seiborlang Dohtdong versus Dapkmen Marbaniang, both weighing 20 kg.      

During the prize distribution ceremony, Careen Wahlang bagged the award for the Best Boxer (Girl Category), while Bankerlang Mawthoh claimed the Best Boxer (Boy) award and Seiborlang Dohtdong was named as the Most Promising Boxer.
