SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Sports and Youth Affairs Bindo M Lanong inaugurated the Indoor Stadium at Khlieh Shnong, Malki on Tuesday.

The stadium was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 78.67 lakh out of the funds from the State Sports Council.

While speaking on the occasion, Lanong has hoped that this new sports infrastructure would greatly benefit the youth of the locality.

“I hope that the locality would take all possible steps to maintain this infrastructure,” Lanong said while also urging the Dorbar Shnong, Seng Samla and Seng Kynthei to take a joint responsibility in maintaining of the stadium.

Meanwhile, Sports and Youth Affairs department director FM Dopth said that this one of the few projects that has been completed on time. Implemented in 2011, the stadium took less than two years to complete. According to Dopth, there are many similar projects which were conceptualised in 2001-2002 that have not yet been completed.
